Five-Year Maktab Curriculum

(Based on the educational traditions of Ulama-e-Deoband and principles of basic Islamic studies)

For Children Aged 4 to 10 Years

Year 1: Foundation (Nursery / Pre-K | Age: 4–5 years)

  • Noorani Qaida: Letters, Harakat, Madd, Sukoon
  • Introduction to Makharij (Pronunciation practice)
  • Memorization with correct Tajweed: Surah Al-Fatiha & Surah Al-Ikhlas

  • Who is our Lord?
  • Three Kalimas with translation
  • Basic concepts: Allah, Angels, Books, Prophets, Day of Judgment

  • 5 short Masnoon Duas: Before eating, sleeping, entering/leaving toilet, greeting
  • Introduction to Durood Shareef

  • Respecting elders, serving parents
  • Saying Salaam, cleanliness, truthfulness
  • Simple Islamic stories

  • Basic Islamic words: Allah, Rasool, Quran, Masjid
  • Urdu Alphabet (Alif to Yay)
  • Visual and verbal introduction to Islamic vocabulary

Year 2: Beginning Nazira (KG | Age: 5–6 years)

  • Complete Noorani Qaida
  • Nazira: Start from Juz’ Amma (Surah An-Naas to Al-Zilzal)
  • Introductory Tajweed practice: Madd, Tanween, Waqf

  • Five pillars of Islam
  • Basic concepts: Jannah, Jahannam, Qabr, Qiyamah
  • Names of some Prophets

  • Ayat-ul-Kursi memorization
  • Dua after hearing Adhan
  • 10 new Masnoon Duas

  • Manners of speech
  • Etiquettes of eating, sleeping, using the toilet
  • Short stories on truthfulness, keeping promises, hospitality

Year 3: Nazira & Worship (Grade 1 | Age: 6–7 years)

  • Complete Juz’ Amma Parah
  • Tajweed: Qalqalah, Ikhfaa, Idghaam, Ghunnah
  • Daily revision habit
  • Memorization: 10 Surahs (e.g., Al-‘Aadiyat, -Zilzalah, Al-Kawsar)

  • Introduction to the Prophets
  • Angels and their duties
  • Day of Judgement, reward & punishment
  • Understanding the concept of true religion (Deen-e-Haq)

  • Wudhu & Ghusl steps
  • Salah units and key phrases
  • Practice of 2 Rakat Sunnah prayer
  • Method of Adhan and Iqamah

  • Duas of Rukoo’, Sujood, Tashahhud
  • Drood E Ibrahim
  • New Duas: Looking in the mirror, travelling, wearing clothes

  • Guarding the tongue
  • Kindness to elders
  • Street manners
  • Controlling anger and envy

Year 4: Seerah & Fiqh (Grade 2 | Age: 7–8 years)

  • Nazira: Juz 1 to 10 Parah
  • Regular Tajweed exercises
  • Memorization: Selected verses from Surah Yaseen & Rahman

  • Seerah: Life of Prophet ﷺ in Makkah
  • Clarification of Tawheed and Risalah
  • How to protect one’s Imaan

  • Observation of Allah’s creation
  • Understanding that everything has a Creator
  • The universe did not come by itself

  • Start of Prophethood
  • Early call to Islam
  • Truthfulness, trustworthiness, character of Prophet ﷺ

  • Fardh and Sunnah in Salah
  • Wudhu/Ghusl-related masail
  • Introduction to Fasting (Roza)
  • Janazah Salah – Duas and order

  • Duas for Iftar, Suhoor, Travelling, Visiting the sick
  • Developing importance and habit of Duas in children

Year 5: Completion & Protection of Deen (Grade 3 | Age: 8–9 years)

  • Nazira: Juz 10 to Juz 30
  • Revision of all Tajweed rules
  • Fluency in Qur’an recitation
  • Memorization of 20+ selected Surahs

  • Steadfastness on Imaan
  • Protection from Atheism:
    • Refuting basic doubts in simple language
    • Signs of Allah in skies, earth, humans, and rain
  • Truth, Fitrah, and connection to Revelation
  • Belief in Finality of Prophethood and the Hereafter

  • Hijrah to Madinah
  • Introduction to Khulafaa-e-Rashideen
  • Key Islamic personalities: Hazrat Hasan رضي الله عنه, Husain رضي الله عنه, Usamah رضي الله عنه, Azwaj E Motahhrat رضی اللہ عنھمن

  • Salah of Jum’ah, Eid, Traveler
  • Developing Khushoo’ in Salah
  • Introduction to Zakah & Hajj
  • Virtues of Ramadan

  • Patience, Modesty, Gratitude
  • Avoiding Pride, Backbiting, Slander
  • Purifying the heart – What makes a good Muslim?

  • 40+ Daily Masnoon Duas
  • Qur’anic Duas (e.g., Rabbana series)
  • Etiquettes, times, and manners of making Duas
